The you know what cake

I met with a gorgeously happy couple to discuss their wedding three weeks before the big day! They had seen a few of our designs online which they liked but needed a little tweaking to suit their big day perfectly.

After the main design of lace panelling with piped overlay to compliment Jacquelie's dress, we said goodbye to David who went to take a walk while Jacquie described the finer details to us.
Along with the stunning lace work on her dress there was a beautifully intricate snowflake which she wanted to be translated into icing in pride of place on the cake.
When it came to the order form and the final details being written down, the lovely bride looked at me and said of the extra special part, 'you know what(!)'. And that's how it was left, the most secretive order form I've ever written was signed by both and David didn't even 'know what' he was signing for 'til his big day!

I love the way the chocolate brown ribbon compliments the mocha custom coloured icing and the white piping of the delicate detailed snowflake is lifted by the white of the lace panelling with piping detail.

I saw Jacquelie when we delivered the cake and she may actually have been the happiest bride I have ever seen! I just love these pictures sent to me by the happy couple, thank you lovely people for sharing these images and for selecting us to make your cake!

A cake for a..?

While we have galleries on our website and cakes are placed in either of them, we say that they are just ideas and are there for inspiration and as a guide to what we can produce. We can absolutely make a larger or smaller version of most of the cakes on our website. And we often do.

Our chocolate Cigarellos cake with rich Belgian chocolate buttons can be amended as it is and rather than just buttons can have all manner of chocolate piled high on each of the tiers. Or can be copied as a smaller version for a Birthday cake with simple shavings of chocolate or piles of tasty chocolates! Such a simple cake but so completely delicious.

And as a twist, our little bow tie cake was originally made for a baby shower for little Juneaux who was not quite born yet, and based on her clever Mum’s wonderfully designed invitations; which we took great inspiration from. In fact once the cake was made, delivered and eaten, we missed it so much that it’s bigger sister was made for the showroom the week after. Although this could always be a delightful Birthday cake too! Or, with different colours and although hard to believe as it is currently so bright, this would be a great addition to a slightly vintage themed wedding…

And what about this box Birthday cake that we made?! A single tier turned into a three tier cake of stacked boxes! Just look at that sumptuous bow and sparkling locket which is all completely edible!

Two styles collide

A perfect example of two styles colliding to form a cake of beauty. Delicate white beads piped on to a background of hand coloured dove grey icing and hundreds of hand cut petals folded and formed on to the cake that sit around the next like they were always meant to be there.

A lot of the decorations that we make have to be produced in advance and then stored until they are set enough to sit proud on the surface of the cake but this design benefitted from the extra time taken to make them directly on to the cake. We could then manipulate the icing to perfectly form and set around the next petal.

I love the way the two styles work so very well together, in my favourite way of having one thing that is the same to tie everything together, in this case it's the colour. That solid white, broken only by the shadows that form around the petals and beading, runs through the cake like a pillar with the last finishing touch of the double satin bridal white ribbon fastened around the base boards and the tiers of dove grey.
I loved every second of making this cake and what a treat that the venue set off the cake in such a stunning way- I have always loved that decadent silver cake stand which, even though its a different shape, tends to set off cakes in such a wonderful way.

Delicately Vibrant

We first met Liz and Lee last year when they fell in love with our Lily of the Valley cake. Their colours were a very vibrant green which Liz wanted as part of her cake but she also loved the delicate design of this little stunner. While the original is a slightly paler green...

Liz and Lee's cake was a little further down our Berisfords colour chart, a mixture of Emerald and Meadow. Although this is a vibrantly floral green, the delicate flowers, thin bridal white ribbon with simple spots above it really give the whole cake back it's delicateness while staying true to Liz and Lee's colour scheme.

This morning I came in to a lovely email from Liz...
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank you much . Our cake was absolutely delicious .. Lee and I are enjoying the top layer all to ourselves !!
All our guests made lovely complement about  our cake , we told everyone where it was made   Including the hotel staff.
We will definitely recommend you !'
May you continue to make fabulous cakes !"

We are so glad that you loved the cake as much as we loved making it!! And I'm so very glad that you got to keep the top tier all for yourself, well Delicious Chocolate orange... I would've too!!

Subtle sparkle and sweeping roses

As long as these handmade roses take to make, they are well worth every second and every last individual painstakingly made and applied petal. Instead of ribbon around the base of the tiers Dawn chose a string of beads which was less intrusive on the design of roses and delicate flowers that cascaded down from the top tier to the bottom.

We often work on cakes that have designs in a different shade to the base colour itself but sometimes the rich ivory tones, especially the deep middle of the roses which lessens as it reaches the outer petals, just looks so stunning against a colour similar to itself.

We just love the giant roses which seem to sweep as they reach the outer layers and the pretty little clusters of flowers nestled among them, finished with a subtle scattering of sparkle to catch the light.

Hand tied

Often I come across a wedding that just inspires me so much that I have to go crazy and take many pictures of and then write all about it because it is simply beautiful. (Or maybe it's the exact wedding that I'd have!!)
I met Karly and Andy earlier this year when they told me all about their wedding plans and their desire to have a naked cake- dressed with fresh fruit to compliment their stunningly rustic wedding in a tepee overlooking the welsh hills and the Dee Estuary.

Their Uncle had made the cake table and stand which was just gorgeous in real life and we think the cake looked perfectly at home sitting on!
The couple had decorated the tepee themselves, we love the strips of fabric in different designs that were tied around each of the chairs, delicate bunting and pretty lighting that hung around each of the poles.

For their wedding breakfast, each guest had their very own picnic basket made just for them (I'd love to know what was in the amazing chest at the end of the table!)

If it became a little hot inside after the fire pit was lit, and you'd had enough roasting marshmallows, there were homemade seats out on the lawn where you could just enjoy the view.

Delicious cordials and mixers sat on another homemade table using large barrels. Alongside the cordials were jugs full of  delicate gypsophila and under the table sat lawn games.

The stand of flowers is actually their table plan! Each pot of lightly scented fresh herbs was a table and in each pot sat the flower identities, or... each persons name!

A last little look before I left and very happily the sun that had been absent all morning finally arrived!  What a stunning wedding and many thanks to the gorgeous bride and groom for letting us make your cake!

We love it when a plan comes together

Kirsty came in to see us with a very clear idea of the cake that she had in mind, a three tier cake iced in turquoise with a large white bow tumbling down as if each tier was a box and the ribbon bound them all together. This was such a pleasure to make, everything from the locket on an icing chain which we painted in silver and hung from the ribbons after imprinting Kirsty and John's initials on to the surface.

As with all jewellery boxes there needs to be a gorgeous bit of sparkle in there... And this is no exception; although the sparkle is underneath the cake not inside. Check out the eye wateringly sparkly cake stand from Sapphire Bespoke events(!) We also love the very sparkly Mr and Mrs which lovely Vicky had dressed the table with.

This gorgeous table plan from Dragonfly Couture Stationery complimented everything wonderfully; just look at that luscious white ribbon trimming the table names and the rich writing finished with even more sparkle!
The favours were small turquoise boxes with white accents. This gorgeous wedding was a perfect coming together of details which made the entire event a luxury jewelled feast for the eyes- and taste buds!!
